He was later absolved or pardoned because he married one of the ladies-in-waiting to Queen Isabella la Católica according to her wishes.³⁴⁷ He married Beatriz de Bobadilla, daughter of Juan Fernandez de Bobadilla and Dona Leonor Osório de Ayala.³⁴⁹ He and Beatriz de Bobadilla resided at Gomeira, Islas Canarias, Spain.⁵⁶¹ Hernán fell in love with a beautiful native named Iballa. The match was not viewed well by the natives. In consequence, he was attacked and killed by a cousin of hers, Pedro Hautaperche.⁵⁶¹

Beatriz de Bobadilla²⁴⁸^,³⁴⁹^,³⁴⁹ also went by the name of Caçadora because she was the daughter of the chief huntsman, to distinguish her from another Beatriz de Bobadilla, the Marchioness of Moya.³⁴⁷ She was born circa 1460.²⁴⁸ As a lady-in-waiting to the Queen, she was known for her beauty and elegance as well as for the luxurious way she dressed. According to some, she was the most graceful lady of the court. Apparently, she also caught the eye of the king. To avert problems, the Queen sought to have her marry and chose the Lord of Gomeira. Her mother-in-law, Dona Inês (III) Peraza, was not pleased with the marriage and developed a prolonged hostility toward her daughter-in-law.⁵⁶² After her husband's murder, she took refuge in the fortress of São Sebastião and asked for help from Pedro da Vera who governed Gran Canaria, conquered by the royal army in 1483. The ensuing repression took on the proportions of a veritable genocide. Beatriz then assumed the governorship of the island, a governorship full of unjust conditions, revealing an extremely cruel and bloodthirsty character.⁵⁶¹ In 1492 she received Christopher Columbus when he reached the island on his voyage to the Antilles. It has been said that Columbus was infatuated with her and sought her out. Beatriz received him with great honor and friendship and, apparently, became his lover.⁵⁶¹ She married Allonso de Lugo, son of Inês de Las Casas (IV).⁵⁶³

Louis de Bethencourt (II) (Jacques, Louis, Jean, Regnault, Jean, Jean, Jean, Regnault, Philippe, Jean) (suffix added for clarification)⁴⁴⁷^,⁴⁴⁷^,⁷⁹^,²⁶⁹^,⁷⁹ was also known as Luis de Bettencourt.⁷⁹ He was born circa 1540 at France.²⁶⁹ Louis de Bethencourt (II) was Lord of Béthencourt, Sigy-en-Bray, France.⁴⁴⁸ He married Marie du Fay at France.⁴⁴⁸^,⁷⁹ According to Bergeron, Louis de Bethencourt (II) had another son in addition to Jacques.⁴⁴⁸ He died before 1606.⁴⁴⁸

Bethencourt (listed in Os Bettencourt as Anne (II)'s sister of unknown name)⁴⁴⁸^,⁴⁴⁸^,⁴⁴⁸ was born circa 1570.⁴⁴⁸ The Nobiliário da Ilha da Madeira states that Matheus and his wife owned the land of Bettencourt in Bray, the ancient house of the Bettencourts, at the time the Nobiliário was written, 1700. There is, however, a problem with dates. Os Bettencourt states that ?'s father, Louis (II), died before 1606, p. 89. Since she must have been born before or during that year, how could she and her husband own the lands of Bettencourt in 1700 when she would be at least 94? It certainly seems unlikely that she would live that long.¹³² She married Mathieu Boquet in 1729.⁴⁴⁸^,¹³² She and Anne de Bethencourt (II) were both owners of Béthencourt, Sigy-en-Bray, France.⁴⁴⁸

Mathieu Boquet⁴⁴⁸ was also known as Matheus Boquet.¹³² He was also known as Jean Basquest.⁴⁴⁸ He was born circa 1700 at France.⁴⁴⁸ In 1729 Mathieu Boquet was Lord of Saumont-la-Poterie, France, (Os Bettencourt gives the date as 1729 but this seems too late to be feasible since the Nobiliário da Ilha da Madeira was written in 1700 and also mentions this person and title; perhaps a typographical error?).⁴⁴⁸^,⁵⁶⁴^,¹³²

Richard de Bethencourt (Jacques, Louis, Jean, Regnault, Jean, Jean, Jean, Regnault, Philippe, Jean)⁴⁴⁷^,⁴⁴⁷^,⁷⁹^,²⁶⁹^,⁷⁹ was also known as Ricardo de Bettencourt.⁷⁹ He was born after 1550 at France.²⁶⁹ He was a squire.⁴⁴⁸ Richard de Bethencourt was Lord of La Chapelle, France.⁴⁴⁸ He married Yde de Saint-Ouen on 5 Dec 1576.⁴⁴⁸

These descendants are numerous in all the valley of the Seine from Rouen to Le Havre, with some even in Paris.⁴⁵⁰ He married Marie Vallois at Guerbaville la Mailleraye, France.¹¹ He died in 1618.¹¹
