Beatriz de Bobadilla248,349,349 also went by the name of Caçadora because she was the daughter of the chief huntsman, to distinguish her from another Beatriz de Bobadilla, the Marchioness of Moya.347 She was born circa 1460.248 As a lady-in-waiting to the Queen, she was known for her beauty and elegance as well as for the luxurious way she dressed. According to some, she was the most graceful lady of the court. Apparently, she also caught the eye of the king. To avert problems, the Queen sought to have her marry and chose the Lord of Gomeira. Her mother-in-law, Dona Inês (III) Peraza, was not pleased with the marriage and developed a prolonged hostility toward her daughter-in-law.562 After her husband's murder, she took refuge in the fortress of São Sebastião and asked for help from Pedro da Vera who governed Gran Canaria, conquered by the royal army in 1483. The ensuing repression took on the proportions of a veritable genocide. Beatriz then assumed the governorship of the island, a governorship full of unjust conditions, revealing an extremely cruel and bloodthirsty character.561 In 1492 she received Christopher Columbus when he reached the island on his voyage to the Antilles. It has been said that Columbus was infatuated with her and sought her out. Beatriz received him with great honor and friendship and, apparently, became his lover.561 She married Allonso de Lugo, son of Inês de Las Casas (IV).563
